DEAR GOD

September 17, 2026

You don't need to believe in a religion to believe in God.

Maybe you believe in God. Maybe you're not sure what you believe. Maybe you grew up with religion, but no longer feel connected to it. Or maybe you've never felt at home in any religion at all — but somewhere inside, you still feel that there is something more.

Something beyond what you can see. Something you can't quite explain. And maybe you've wondered: Can I still talk to God?

The answer doesn't have to come from a religion. God can mean different things to different people.

For some, God is a loving presence. For others, God is a higher consciousness, the Universe, a source of love, or something greater than themselves. Some people call it Allah. Some call it Spirit. Some simply call it God.

The name may be different. The experience may be different.

And you don't have to have all the answers. You don't need a perfect belief system. You don't need to know exactly what God looks like. You don't need to understand why everything happens. You don't even need to be certain that you're doing it “right.”

You can simply talk. You can ask a question. You can sit quietly. You can write down what you're feeling.

You can say: “Dear God, I don't know what I believe anymore.” Or: “Dear God, are you listening?” Or simply: “Dear God, I need help.”

There is something very human about reaching for something beyond ourselves when we don't know what else to do. And perhaps talking to God isn't about having the right words. Perhaps it's about being honest.

You are allowed to have your own relationship with God. Your relationship with God doesn't have to look like anyone else's. It doesn't have to fit neatly into a category.

You can question. You can doubt. You can believe one day and struggle to believe the next. You can come back after years of feeling disconnected. You can be angry. You can be grateful. You can ask for a sign. You can ask for nothing at all. There is room for all of it.

Because maybe faith isn't always about certainty. Maybe sometimes it's simply about leaving the door open.

So, what do you believe? You don't have to answer that question today.

Maybe a better question is: “What do you feel when you become quiet?”

What happens when you stop trying to figure everything out? What do you notice when you simply sit with yourself for a moment?

Maybe that's where your conversation begins. Not with certainty. Not with religion. Just with a question.

“Dear God, are you there?” And then… listen.

Reflection

What does God mean to you? You don't have to give the “right” answer. Just write what feels true to you right now.

Dear God is a quiet place to ask, reflect, write, and listen.
